Stitch along week 4: Roof and handle

Stitch along week 4: Roof and handle

Week 4! This week we're tackling the two roof panels and the handle.

As a reminder, here's our roadmap:
Week 4, Oct 9: Stitch roofs and handle
Week 5, Oct 16: Stitch sides
Week 6, Oct 23: Stitch bottom, cut and sew lining
Week 7, Oct 30: Assemble, sew in lining, stitch exposed edges

Let's get into it! Our panels this week use a surprisingly large amount of yarn! This is because in the stitches we use, you want to use just as much yarn on the back side as on the front. Refresh yourself on the videos for slanting gobelin and long stitch to remember how it's done.

The roof panels:
The roof uses both long stitch and slanting gobelin stitch. You may want to double up your yarn for better coverage when doing a long stitch. I doubled my yarn for the scallops at the top of the roof, then used it single ply for the slanting gobelin stitches that make up the body of the roof.

The handle:
You'll notice that the pattern diagram for the handle doesn't show the entire thing. This is because you should use the full length of your plastic needlepoint sheet, which can vary. Leave a few rows empty at the beginning and end of the handle to attach it to the purse body. I made my handle in the house background color, but you may choose to match it to the roof color.

That's it for this week! Happy stitching!

xoxo,

Caitlin
