It's Week 2 of Scraptember! This week we're celebrating the small things in life. That is, small scrap fabric projects! I've compiled a bunch of my favorite small scrappy projects here. These would make excellent gifts - and the holidays are just around the corner!
1. Scrunchies
Scrunchies are such an easy, satisfying, and fast make! And they're a great gift for the long-haired cuties in your life. My tutorial is posted above!
2. Stockings
A few years ago I made a TON of Christmas stockings from scraps. They sold like hotcakes in my Etsy and a local shop! I roughly used Suzy Quilts tutorial (here) with a few modifications. This is also a great use for those orphan blocks leftover from other projects.
3. Drawstring bags
How cute is this bag from @jenib320 (aka In Color Order)? You can find the pattern on her site here. And check out the super cute versions she's been making from vintage sheets on her Instagram. These are such a great alternative as a reuseable gift bag!
4. Zip pouch
I made these improv scrap pouches a while back and it's such a joy to put little handwork projects in them! Here is a great tutorial to follow.
5. FPP
Foundation paper piecing is the ultimate scrap-buster! I made these guys a few years ago and they always make me smile. These cute shrooms are from Etive and Co and you can find the pattern here.
6. Pattern weights
I made this tutorial a few years ago and it continues to be my most successful post on Pinterest! It's super simple, just involves a few squares. I filled mine with rice so they have a satisfying heft, and added a little dried lavender so they smell lovely.
7. Bow
Ok this is a bit of a cheat since it's not an actual pattern or tutorial, but these bows are so cute I had to include them! These are from Psychic Outlaw and can be included to use up scraps from a quilt you send to them to be made into a coat. But I think you could replicate them by sewing scraps into a big tube and making the ends cute. If you make it, please tag me so I can see!
8. Ornaments
These little ornaments took quiltstagram by storm a couple years ago! They're cute and easy to make, it just takes a little patience to get the folds crisp. You can find the tutorial from evquilts here.
9. Fabric twine
Oh, the possibilities with scrap fabric twine! I love that it's two-ply, wouldn't it look lovely with one colorful ply and one neutral? You could crochet bags, bins, or use it to tie packages or macrame! See the tutorial from My French Twist here.
10. Lavender sachets
Last year I was planning on sewing a little lavender sachet to tie onto every holiday gift I gave. Did I do it? No! But it's the thought that counts? If you have it a bit more together than me you can find the tutorial from She Quilts A Lot here.
11. Baby shoes
These little baby shoes are SO CUTE! And they take such a small amount of fabric! I bet you could add some hot glue or fabric puffy paint on the bottom to make them non slip for little walkers. You can find the tutorial from Spoonflower here.
12. Pin cushions
There are loads of cutie patootie patterns for pincushions out there, and I particularly like this one from In Color Order and these from Fish Museum.
13. Cat toys
Aren't these fish cute? You could stuff them with catnip and use them as cat toys, or just keep them as a lucky pocket charm. Find the tutorial here.
14. A bowl
A bowl! This is a genius use of fabric stiffener and precious scraps. They treat the fabric stiffener like it's papier mache paste! Find the tutorial here.
15. Clothes!
Have you seen @hisydgraham's adorable patchwork dress? She released it as a pattern here. Loads of other scrappy garment projects here.
