With the kick-off of Scraptember, I thought I'd bring you a post chock full of SCRAPspiration! Here are the vintage scrappy quilts I can't get out of my head and the modern scrappy beauties that haunt me.
Vintage Scrappy Quilts
Sometimes scrap quilts can be a riotous affair of color and pattern. But to unify it, consider a consistent border on blocks, as in this antique postage stamp quilt.
I love how not every round in this Trip Around the World quilt is the same all the way around. That little dark burgundy band in the upper left? Perfection!
Sometimes scraps demand a riotous, colorful quilt! This antique beauty is just that.
FEAST YOUR EYES on this exploded double wedding ring! Did you even know such a thing existed?
Modern Scrappy Quilts
This improv beauty is called Mistwraith, made by Rossie Hutchinson of the Ann Arbor Quilt Guild. Improv really shines when made with scraps, and the repeated stripes bring unity to a rainbow of color.
Tara Faughan is a master of the scrap-friendly quilt. This four-patch design uses subtle differences in value to add depth to the design.
I love scrappy quilts that give scraps room to breath with a consistent background color! This quilt is called "Dorothy" by Penelope Handmade, and you can get the pattern on her site. Speaking of which - so many of her patterns are scrap friendly!
Scrap strips YEARN to be a log cabin quilt! I love when log cabins use their different halves to make a larger quilt design, as in this beauty from Wise Craft Handmade. Check out Taralee Quiltery's free Scrappy Courthouse Steps pattern for another spin on a classic!
Separate your scraps into rainbow order and make this hidden star beauty! Pattern is Tambo Star by Jittery Wings Quilt Co.
We're not done! Stay tuned for more Scrapspiration this Scraptember, and I'll share the scrappy quilts I've made.
Kiss kiss smooch smooch,
